Overview

Advanced Preferences have the ability to default customer-preferred carrier/mode of transport/services as specified in the customer profile.

Beginning with release 8.10, all the basic transportation preferences are available as advanced preferences. The system will resolve advanced preferences first then look for standard preferences. Transportation Management supports the following advance preference types:

Transportation Advanced Preferences
Type Description Advanced Preference Functionality
12 Document Set Transportation Management
13 Options and Equipment Transportation Management
14 Customer Freight Transportation Management
15 Carrier Transportation Management
16 Mode of Transport Transportation Management

The transportation preferences are resolved when the shipment is created, in the sequence listed:

  1. Customer Freight Preference
  2. Mode of Transport Preference
  3. Carrier Preference
  4. Options and Equipment Preference

The Document Set Preference is resolved whenever shipment documents are printed and the Document Selection (P49591) is called.

General Processing and Setup Considerations

Select the System Constants form exit from Branch/Plant Constants (P41001) and populate the Preference Schedule field with the advanced preference schedule. For transportation it is mandatory to have the schedule in System Constants. Transportation will not consider the advanced preference schedule associated with the P4210 processing options.

1

Customer Freight Preference: Advance Preference Type 14

This preference provides several defaults (or return values):

Customer Freight Preference: Advanced Preferences Name Revisions (P4071)

From menu G40311 select Advanced Preferences Name Revisions (P4071).
Create a new customer freight preference: click Add and specify:

2

Customer Freight Preference: Advance Preference Detail Revision (P4072)

From menu G40311 select Advanced Preference Detail Revisions (P4072).

On Advance Preference Detail, search for the Preference Name defined as the previous step in P4071 and click Add to create a new preference detail.

On Preference Hierarchy Selection, select the appropriate combination and click Select.

Note: This hierarchy is based on the preference hierarchy defined for this preference during Preference Name Revisions P4071.

In this example, an Item Group and Customer group combination is selected.

3

For example, when selecting the preference name TAFR, the Item Price Group and Customer Groups default from P4071 Advanced Preferences Name Revisions. Then, specify Effective/ Expired date and the fields corresponding to customer group/Item group (in P4072 form W4072A).

"Lin Bus" is a group key defined in P4092 "Define Customer Price Groups" application (the menu G4222 Price Management).

"SlsCd1" and "SlsCd2" are group keys defined in Define Item Price Groups (P4092) application (the menu G4222 Price Management). The effective values (BIK and 101) are populated in Item Branch/Plant (P41026) by taking the Category Codes row exit.

4

Select the line and take Pref Details form exit.

5

In P4072 (form W4072D) enter the additional Driver fields (if any) and the Return fields. The key fields that will appear on this form are dependent upon the Advanced Preference Type. For the customer freight preference, the return fields are:

Select the shipment and take the Revisions row exit to Shipment

32

Notice that Branch Plant 30, Origin 6031 and City Paris will be the driver fields used when starting to resolve the transportation preference.

In this example, the logic used to resolve the preference is the following:

1. Resolve Customer Freight preference:
Driver data: Business Unit = 30
Return data: Freight Handling Code = FP, Route Selection Type=6, BF=1

2. Resolve Mode of Transport preference:
Driver data: Business Unit = 30, Origin = 6031, City = Paris, FreightCode = FP
Return data: Mode of Transport = TL

3. Resolve Carrier Preference:
Driven data: Business Unit = 30, Mode of Transport = TL, Origin = 6031, FreightCode=FP
Return data: Preferred Carrier: 8599 or 8580.

4. Resolve Options and Equipment Preference:
Driven data: Mode of Transport = TL
Return data: Option/Eq=LIFTGATE, DL=D

Notice that at the end the system picks the carrier 8599 (Preferred carrier #1) because it is the only carrier having a LIFTGATE option defined in P4956 Work with Options and Equipment.

34

4. P4915. Inquire on the Shipment Number. Row exit->Routing Options
35

5. Shipment Revisions. Row exit->Options and Equip

Test Scenario #3: Freight, MOT, Carrier, Options/Equipment, Document Set

This is an example on how to use advanced preference for Customer Freight, Mode of Transport, Carrier, Options /Equipm. And Document Set in EnterpriseOne.

1. Use preference Schedule ‘ADVANCE’.
2. In P4210 Enter a transportation sales order similar with the sales order entered at the previous test scenario #2 for branch plant 30 (Origin 6031) and Sold To 17122013 (destination city: Paris).
3. Make sure a shipment is created. Notice that Branch plant 30, Origin 6031 and City Paris will be the driver fields used when starting to resolve the transportation preference.
4. Select the shipment and take row exit "Routing Options"

37

5. Confirm the shipment: P49645
Make sure the processing option #2.Print Delivery Documents and #3.Display Delivery Document Selection Form are set to 1.

38

Select the shipment from P4915 and take row exit ->Shipment ->Confirm Shipment

39

40

P49591 Delivery Document Selection is called by P49645 and it resolves the preference type 12 Document set by displaying the 2 document codes (BOL1, MBL1) setup in preferred Document set DS1.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: How to activate advanced transportation preferences?

Answer 1: To activate the advanced transportation preferences setup the Preference Schedule in System Constants (P41001) in order to be resolved. While the transportation base preferences are "always on", the advanced ones need to have the schedule set up in Branch/Plant constants in order to be resolved. Transportation preferences will not be activated by setting up the processing options on the Preference tab of Sales Order Entry (P4210). The schedule set up there overrides the one in Branch Plant Constants only when resolving sales advanced preferences.

Question 2: In which sequence the transportations preferences are resolved?

Answer 2: Transportation preferences are resolved at the time a shipment is created, in the sequence listed:

The Document Set Preference is resolved whenever shipment documents are printed and the Document Selection (P49591) is called.

Question 3: What happens when there are override values?

Answer 3: Transportation preference values will never override values that are manually keyed in a transaction. The values will be based on the following sequence:

Question 4: What are the driver fields and the return fields when using advance preference?

Answer 4: The driver and return fields are the key fields that will appear on P4072 (form W4072D) dependent upon the Advanced Preference Type.

The driver fields are additional fields used to select a preference. The return values are the values default or the values resulted after applying the preference. Each preference type has a different set of return values. A return value can be a driver value for a subsequent preference. For example, when a Mode of Transport preference is resolved, the mode will be used as a driver for subsequent preferences that have Mode of Transport (MOT) for the driver field (Carrier Preference and Options and Equipment Preference).
